William H. Cannon

November 27, 1946 - August 18, 2023

William H. Cannon, 76, of Farmington Hills, passed away August 18, 2023. He was born in Detroit in 1946, the fifth child of James Sr. and Mary (née Beck) Cannon.

Raised in Detroit, Bill attended De La Salle Collegiate until he and his parents moved to Southfield, and he graduated from Brother Rice High School. After initially attending John Carroll University in Ohio, Bill enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Panama region during the Vietnam Conflict.

Upon his honorable discharge, Bill continued his studies at Oakland University and Lawrence Tech. He married Sharyn Sloan in 1972. Later, Bill became an electrician and very proud member of IBEW Local 58. Because his wife was an airline employee, the two traveled extensively. As a boy, Bill found his passion for playing ice hockey. He continued playing into his late 50s with the Old Michiganders, participating in countless senior tournaments around the country, with Sharyn as his loyal travel partner. Not surprisingly, Bill was a lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan, and more recently a season ticket holder of Michigan Wolverines Men’s Ice Hockey. When Sharyn was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Bill devoted most of his time as her primary caregiver and became an advocate for those suffering from the disease, as well as for those who care for them.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Sharyn; his parents; in-laws Maury and Lorraine Sloan; and siblings James Jr. (the late Sally), Mary Patricia (the late Robert) Connolly, and Joseph.

Bill is survived by his sister Martha (the late Robert) Mulligan; sister-in-law Sharon (Mel) Fishman; many dear nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and Kitty Smith, his loving companion for the past ten years, along with her dear children and grandchildren.

Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service, at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. He will lie in state on Thursday, August 24th, at 9:30 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Transfiguration, 25225 Code Rd., Southfield. Bill will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
