I Remember...

It was one of life's greatest privileges knowing Tom and having had the chance to be the friend of such an amazing person in so many different ways. The world is truly a lesser place without him and I will forever mourn our loss.

I remember Tom, my uncle, exactly as he looks in this picture - charismatic and lanky with a rockin' mustache. Witty, thoughtful, very smart. When I was about seven years old he and his family traveled to Maryland to visit with grandparents. It was the first time I met his stepdaughter Jessica, who is about my age. We got along really well so our parents came up with a plan for me to drive back to Michigan with Tom's family, spend a week with them and then fly home to DC. It was a really fun visit - I remember eating dinners together, playing in the neighborhood, and sneaking ice cream sandwiches out of the freezer (sorry, Leigh!). At the end of the week, Tom took me to the airport, walked me all the way through security and onto the plane, and helped get me strapped into my seat. He said goodbye and walked a few steps away, then turned around and said, "Here, take this" and handed me a $20 bill which, to a seven year old kid in 1991, was a huge deal. He then waved goodbye and shuffled off the plane. That's always been a special memory for me, and when I think about Tom, I remember that moment on the plane - him looking down at seven year old me strapped into an airplane seat for my first solo flight and wanting to send me off into the world with a little extra pocket money, just in case. I'm sad I didn't get a chance to see him in recent years, keeping his whole family very close in my thoughts.

Tom was a mentor of mine early in my career. He helped me learn not only the business but how to conduct myself as a professional. He was very intelligent, knowledgeable, insightful, and kind. Tom had a deep caring for humanity and his humor will be missed. God bless him and his family.

I worked with Tom for years at Kelly. His knowledge of systems, data and ability to make things happen was valued. Tom was caring and sweet, always. He has been missed. Prayers with the family.
