“It is only in the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

-”Le Petit Prince”, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Nicole (Liard) Myre, age 76, passed away on April 5, 2025 after a valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis and breast cancer. She passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Nicole was born New Year’s Eve 1948 in Joliette, Québec…a firecracker in every respect. As the oldest of ten children, she learned to stand up for herself early, a skill that served her well her entire life. She excelled in school and became a secondary school teacher at the age of 19, so young that she was often mistaken for a student.

In the summer of 1971, her beautiful blue eyes caught the attention of hockey player Philippe Myre, who later took her on a date to Old Montréal and offered her a single rose, along with his heart. Thus began a love story that would last 52 years. They were married in 1972 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Nicole started learning English by reading billboards on long road trips. Her favorite sign introduced her to the “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” a phrase she enjoyed saying her whole life. Although her English fluency grew quickly, she never lost the trademark French that endeared her to everyone around her. Philippe’s career took them across the United States from Atlanta, to St. Louis, to Philadelphia, to Los Angeles. Through it all Nicole’s support for Philippe never wavered and she became the team’s biggest fan wherever they went.

Nicole was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, always placing the needs of others before her own. Just days before her passing, she was cracking jokes with her medical teams, telling them: “I’m sure you are used to seeing people crying and angry all the time, but I want to make you smile. I want you to go home tonight and remember the funny French Canadian lady that made you laugh.” To know Nicole was to love her, and she made an impact on everyone she met. She was truly unforgettable.

Nicole was preceded in death by her daughter Elisabeth, her parents Lionel and Rose-Aimée, her brother Normand, and her nephew David. She is survived by her husband Philippe; daughters Stéphanie (Kenneth) and Natalie (Michael); grandchildren Mikey, Malachi, Jacob, and Elisabeth; brothers Luc (Jeannette) and Yves (Linda); and sisters Madeleine (Pierre), Carole, Monique (Robert), Micheline (Alain), Lucie (Yves), and Judith (Claude); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation for Nicole will be held Friday, April 11th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI. She will lie in state Saturday, April 12th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI. Burial will follow at a later date in her hometown of Joliette, Québec.

Nicole loved flowers, and it is her family’s wish that she be surrounded by them as they celebrate her life. Flowers, cards, and/or memorial contributions to the American Lung Association are all welcome but certainly not expected. Nicole’s family is grateful for any gestures of love and support during this difficult time and appreciate all who are able to join in honoring her memory.
