Marianne Elizabeth Hennessey

May 1, 1934 - March 6, 2025

Marianne Hennessey passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025 at the age of 90 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born at the family farmhouse near Engadine, Michigan on May 1, 1934, and was the third of 6 children to Louia and Bernice Proton.

Marianne graduated with Honors from Garfield Township High School, and went on to earn her RN from the Mercy Nursing School of Detroit, and later her BSN from Madonna College. She married the love of her life, Raymond Hennessey, in 1956, and together they raised their four children in Livonia, MI. She worked as a nursing supervisor for many years at St. Mary Hospital in Livonia, and later at Hawthorne Center Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in Northville.

Due to their frugality and hard work, Ray and Marianne were able to retire in their late 50s to their beautiful home on Lake Huron near Cheboygan MI, where they lived for over 25 years before they moved back to the Detroit area to be nearer to their family as they developed health issues. They also spent many winters in the Southwest. Marianne enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, and taking long walks on the trails near their home on the lake. She and Ray were members of St. Michael Parish in Livonia, St. Charles Parish in Cheboygan, and St. John Neumann Parish in Canton until they were no longer able to live independently.

Marianne was preceded in death by her husband of over 67 years, Raymond Hennessey, her 5 siblings, Donella, Lewis, Marvel, Delina, and Peter, and her daughter-in-law Kristen. She is survived by her children, Lawrence Hennessey (Mary), Ellen Bach (Michael), Timothy Hennessey, and Julie Cloud. She is also survived by her 5 grandsons, Bryan, Andrew, Matthew, and Joshua Bach, and John Hennessey, as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Her grandsons all remember with fondness their time spent “Up North” at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Marianne will be remembered for her kindness, hospitality, cheerfulness, and boundless energy, as well as for her remarkable luck at playing cards and bingo. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Provision Living in East Lansing and Corso Care Hospice for their compassion and expert care.

Visitation for Mrs. Hennessey will be held on Thursday, March 13th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. She will lie in state on Friday, March 14th, at 10:30 a.m., until the time of her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Rd., Canton. She will be laid to rest in Glen Eden Cemetery, Livonia.
