Joseph Leo Tucker

August 4, 1941 - March 1, 2025

Joseph Leo Tucker, age 83, of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully in Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, Florida on March 1, 2025. He was born in Women's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan on August 4, 1941, to parents Joseph Samuel and Esther Gertrude (Cook) Tucker.

Joseph grew up in Dearborn, Michigan with his siblings, Thomas (C.S.C. Congregation of Holy Cross Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana), Leo, and Anne Marie. He attended St. Alphonsus grade school and high school in Dearborn and graduated with the Class of 1959.

In 1963, Joseph met the love of his life, Theresa Kakaley, at Henry Ford Community College. They were engaged in 1965 and married in 1966. Joseph enlisted in the US Army Reserves and became a Military Police officer in 1964. He was promoted to the rank of E5 Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1969 after six years of service. He attended the University of Detroit, where he earned a BBA in Business Management. As a young man, he worked for Detroit Marine Supply (ship chandler), Metropolitan Life Insurance, and finally Ford Motor Company, until he retired in 1992.

Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization which focuses on charity, unity, and patriotism. He earned the highest honor as a 4th Degree Knight.

His love for the University of Notre Dame football made autumn a favorite season for him and his family. Watching Detroit Tiger baseball was a close second. Fishing with his children and grandchildren especially at Camp Dearborn was his cherished pastime. Oh, and how he enjoyed traveling! His favorites included Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Philippines, the islands of the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. No surprise, his absolute favorite was his family's homeland of Sicily. In recent years, skeet shooting, archery, swimming, Wii bowling, and playing pool were amongst things he enjoyed. There was nothing more valuable than spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Theresa for 58 years. Loving father of Christine Jamison (Jeff), Joseph S. (Raelene) Tucker, and Margaret (the late Eric) Wells. Proud grandfather of Anthony, Colin, Alexander, Evan, Zoe, Caroline, Ryan and Erin. Dear brother of the late Br. Thomas Tucker, the late Leo (Paula) Tucker, and Anne Marie (the late Fred) Burger. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law Michelle Tucker. Joseph is survived by his children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by everyone that loved him.

Visitation for Joseph will be held on Sunday, March 9th, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. He will lie in state on Monday, March 10th, at 10:00 a.m., until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas a'Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. He will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joseph's name can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or Cornerstone Foundation (Hospice & Palliative Care – The Villages, Florida).
