Jane A. Hier-Rose, age 89, passed away February 17, 2025. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to immigrant parents, the late Herman Hier and Mary (nee. Murray) Hier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Rose, a life-long, self employed florist and her dear brothers, Michael and Daniel Hier and their wives, Catherine (nee. Vaughan) and Marie (nee. Silvestri) Hier and her beloved sister, Ellen (nee. Hier) Klein. Jane graduated with a B.A. in History from Marygrove College in 1957, then received a master’s degree in Education in 1962, and subsequently, a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Detroit. In 1957, she entered the Convent of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters in Monroe, Michigan where she was a teaching sister, mainly in the inner city of Detroit until her departure in 1970. Jane was employed as a social worker at the Wayne County Jail, a probation officer for Wayne County Circuit Court, and finally retired from the Federal Court Department of Justice after 20 years of service. Jane loved reading, nature, visits to museums and historic and religious sites, traveling to Russia, China, Indonesia, Eastern and Western Europe, and touring the USA. In her retirement years, she worked part-time as a receptionist at the Father Solanus Capuchin Center and Blessed Sacrament Dominican Nuns Monastery. Deeply religious, Jane believed in hope and that cheerfulness and kindness was the greatest thing we could do for ourselves and others. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends will cherish her memory and friendly manner. Jane will lie in state on Monday, February 24th, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, Michigan. She will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
