John Joseph Skuratowicz, age 88 of Farmington Hills, passed away January 26, 2025. John was born in Eastern Poland December 29,1936, the son of Antoni Skuratowicz and Jozefa (Balciewicz) Skuratowicz. As a youth, his family traveled west through Europe escaping multiple waves of conflicts during World War II. While on a train traveling West, his family was separated as bombs destroyed the train. He recounts his father’s body shielding him from the attack and finally reuniting with his sisters and mother. The family immigrated via sponsorship and farmed in Kentucky prior to moving to Detroit. He became the man of his family as he cared for his dying father at 15 years of age, working full time while in school. He met the love of his life, Josephine Andrusz through his younger sister. Together John and Josie cared for their widowed mothers throughout their lives. He would often say how beautiful Josie was, and always had his arm around her. He slept with her wedding portrait in his purview. They celebrated their 65th Anniversary in 2024. John was a proud American Citizen. He attended Lawrence Tech while raising a family in Farmington. He worked in quality precision machining and helped contribute to the space race in the 1960’s, providing an idyllic life in the rural suburbs of Farmington Twp. We are all proud of his service in the National Guard. John & Josie had an active life, many friends and close family. John took multiple trips off roading and travels with his cousins.Together, John & Josie took annual snowmobile trips across the Upper Peninsula with their snowmobile club. They fell in love with Northern Michigan through their friends and established their charming summer home in 1971. The entire extended family enjoyed “the cottage.” Each summer became a family reunion. It was John’s favorite place with his family, all enjoying the lake, the woods, the seclusion, with family stories around the bonfire, looking at the Milky Way. He was an avid boater, water skier, and had an immense love for Opera and Classical music. Many summer weeks were filled with Les Mis on the lake. He taught us all the value of God, family, confidence and kindness. He always had a welcoming smile on his face, an encouraging word, a heartfelt compliment, and a positive attitude. He made everyone welcome and feel like they were the most important person in the room. He was always ready with a skillful helping hand, solid advice, and a warm hug. He would fix anything, build anything, try anything. He enjoyed summers outdoors working on his engines, cars, toys, making things go fast. He taught us all so much. He was the beloved husband of Josephine for 65 years. Loving father of Linda (Barry) Adams, Sandra (Gary) Patterson, and John (Ginger) Skuratowicz. Proud Dziadzie of Tyler (Cassandra) and Madison Adams, Michael Patterson, and John, Luke, Sean, Sarah and Mark Skuratowicz. Great-grandfather of Meadow Adams. John was the Patriarch of the Skuratowicz Family, predeceased by his sisters Boleslawa and Helen. Visitation for John will be held on Monday, February 3rd, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with an evening Rosary Service, at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
