Margaret A. “Peg” Sartor, age 89, passed away January 15, 2024. She was born December 18, 1935 in Tiffin, Ohio to Jerome Leo and Agnes Theresa Benner. Peg was the beloved wife of the late Richard “Dick” Sartor for 52 years. Cherished mother of Michelle (David) Girolamo and Maureen (Ryan Welch) Sartor. Loving grandmother of Brixon, Elliot and Kendra Schmiesing. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her eight siblings, along with their spouses: Aline (Donald) Mayer, Howard (Virginia) Benner, Mildred (Alvin) Piechocki, Norman (Annabel) Benner, Martha (Clifton) Alspach, Bernetta (Jack) Kemp, Alfred (Marlene) Benner, and Gerald (Bill) Benner. Peg was an Ursuline nun in Toledo, OH in her early adulthood. After earning her bachelor’s degree in education, she became an elementary school teacher, and was very dedicated to her students. However, as she told others, she felt that something was missing in her heart. After leaving the convent, she married, moved to Dearborn, MI, and had her two daughters. She taught grade school again for several years before starting a home daycare, which she loved, until retirement. Later in life, she loved helping to raise her three grandchildren and watching them grow. Although growing up shy, Peg was a real people person, cherishing time spent with family and friends, with many lifelong friendships, and a good sense of humor with just a touch of sass. Everyone agreed that Peg was a very kind person and an exceptional listener. Being a hard worker and caring for others for most of her years, she didn’t have many hobbies of her own. However, she enjoyed nature, watching and listening to birds and finding shapes in the clouds. She could often be found chatting on the phone with friends, taking a walk, or shopping to find that perfect gift for a daughter, friend, or grandchild. She was truly a gift to us all. Visitation for Peg will be held on Monday, January 20th, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service, at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. She will lie in state on Tuesday, January 21st, at 10:00 a.m., until the time of her Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. Memorial donation's in Peg's name can made to No Kid Hungry, Save the Children, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.Margaret "Peg" Sartor
