Maureen M. McDevitt

October 31, 1956 - November 17, 2024

Maureen M. McDevitt, age 68, passed away on November 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, following complications from pneumonia.

Maureen was the cherished daughter of the late Leah Elizabeth Keating and Richard Edward McDevitt. She was a devoted sister to Christine Potocsky (Steve), Eileen McDevitt, Anne McDevitt, David McDevitt, and her late brother Richard McDevitt. She was a beloved aunt to Brandon Potocsky (Rachel) and Ryan Potocsky (Lauren), as well as a dear cousin to many. Maureen shared her life with her significant other, Steven E. Goldsmith.

A bright and accomplished individual, Maureen attended St. Monica Catholic School in Detroit and graduated with honors from Harrison High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She continued her education at Oakland University, earning a B.A. in Communications Arts, Magna Cum Laude and later received her MFA in Theatre from Wayne State University's Hilberry Repertory Company.

Throughout her career, Maureen was recognized as one of the most talented actresses in the Detroit area. A proud member of Actors’ Equity, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and AFTRA, her work spanned radio spots, television commercials, industrial films, and live theatre. She graced the stages of Meadow Brook Theatre, The Hilberry Repertory Company and Bay View Association leaving an indelible mark on the performing arts community.

Outside her professional achievements, Maureen had a zest for life. She was an avid exerciser, a passionate singer, an enthusiastic gardener, and a skilled artisan. Her summers spent at the family cottage, "CEMRAD," in Bay View were filled with cherished memories of performing and enjoying time with loved ones. The cottage’s name, a creative acronym from the first initials of the McDevitt siblings, reflected the close-knit bond they shared.

Maureen will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, intellectual curiosity, and vibrant social spirit. Her family and friends will greatly miss her warmth, humor, and love.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Crouse Memorial Chapel in Bay View, Michigan.
