Mary Lou “GG” Christy, age 95, left us to be with her Lord November 2, 2024. She was born on April 15,1929 in Detroit to James C. Buhl and Margaret Buhl. Mary Lou was the beloved wife of the late John S Christy for 41 years before his passing in 1990. She is survived by her adoring daughter Cathy (Marty) Ingram and son in law Roger Taylor, 4 grandchildren she cherished, Emily (Lyn) Taylor Wayne, Jonathan Taylor, Neal (Jamica) Ingram, and Kristin (Shane) Bodnovits, as well as four great grandchildren, Kaiya, Theron, Tessa, and Dominic. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her younger brother Michael Buhl and her daughter Deborah Taylor. Mary Lou graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit in 1948. After graduating she worked for J. L. Hudson on the switchboard which was one of the world's largest switchboards at the time. Shortly after, she met her best friend and the love of her life, Johnny. They married six months later. As newlyweds, they moved to Harlingen, Texas. After one year to the day of their arrival to Texas, they headed back home to Detroit where they started their family. John and Mary Lou moved to Novi in 1969, where they made many beautiful memories. After the death of her husband John in 1990, Mary Lou moved to Commerce and lived independently, serving on the HOA board for many years. She loved to put luncheons together for the residents of the complex. Mary Lou was a Mary Kay consultant for over three decades and was friends with many of her clients. She loved meeting new people and had a way of making everyone feel loved, special and the center of her world. Always generous with her time, she was dedicated to taking communion to the elderly on Sunday for those who could not get to church and living in the local nursing homes. In the footsteps of her mother, Mary Lou was a talented and accomplished seamstress. The great-grandchildren cherish many gifts that she spent hours creating, along with her dolls, that each have their own personality and life story. These dolls were always displayed proudly in her sewing room where friends and family could see them. Mary Lou was also an accomplished painter and artist. Her creative pieces will forever be treasured by those that knew and loved her. Mary Lou’s biggest passion was spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren who lovingly called her “GG”. Christmas gatherings were always a special time spent together and the magical memories she created for her family will never be forgotten. Retaining her quick wit and sharp memory until her final day, her stories, smile and laughter will live in our hearts forever. She was a woman of deep faith, always leaning on God through every season of life. In times of trouble she called upon Jesus, trusting fully in His love and strength. Though we grieve, we take solace in knowing we will be reunited in Heaven. Visitation for Mary Lou will be held Wednesday, November 6th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
