Fred Zabkiewicz, age 96 of Canton, passed away October 10, 2024. He was born on September 10, 1928 in Detroit to Stanley and Louise Zabkiewicz.

Blessed with seven children, Fred and his beloved late wife, Lorraine, enjoyed a full life. He was an executive chef by profession, as well as his family’s personal chef for the elaborate holiday spreads he provided. Fred worked for 47 years as an executive chef at the Detroit Boat Club, Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club, Dearborn County Club, and Detroit Yacht Club. He was a perfectionist in nature, which was evident in his culinary skills. His drive and determination was equally dedicated to a fulfilling second career, which he continued into his mid-80’s. 

Amidst all the wonderful chaos of work and family, he and Lorraine always found time for just the two of them. Whether it be a vacation or a quick weekend getaway, they made their bond a priority. Surrounding himself with family was what made Fred the happiest. He was funny and entertaining to be around. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always looked forward to their time spent together.

Fred was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine for 65 years. Loving father of Debbie (Rick) Haller, Pat (the late Mike) Henry, Bonnie (John) Biolchini, Tina (Harold) Sneath, Mark, Andrea and Tom (Shawna). Dear grandfather of 13. Also survived by many great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Fred will be held on Monday, October 14th, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. He will lie in state on Tuesday, October 15th, at 10:00 a.m., until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton.  He will be laid to rest in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights.
