Frances Toscano, age 102, passed away October 7, 2024. She was born March 12, 1922 in Detroit to Zygmund and Frances Bielecki. Frances, also known as Love-bug to some RAs, came to Independence Village with her sister, Edwina Cook in 2011. She enjoyed especially the musical entertainment in the lobby and could be seen tapping her toes to the upbeat songs. Frances always loved upbeat music and could play songs from memory or just jam what she was feeling on the harmonica. Frances was an animal lover and enjoyed visiting Michigan’s parks to see them. She once coaxed a wild racoon to climb in her lap to be petted and pose for a picture. She loved getting to pet the animals that visit Independence Village. Frances was an avid gardener and lined her yards with vegetable gardens and flower beds. She loved to be surrounded by flowers. You could not pick one flower that was her favorite. She found them all to be beautiful. Frances was almost as particular about her appearance as her sister, Edwina. Her visit to the hairdresser each week was a highlight of living at Independence Village. As Frances would say: “Love you, love you, love you.” Frances was the devoted wife of the late Frank. Loving mother of Emilia (the late Tony) Berlongieri, Jeanette (Ray) Ferland, Fran (Ed) Holden and June (Greg) Prendergast. Dear grandmother of John Berlongieri, Jerry Berlongieri, Erica Holden, Edward Holden, and John Holden. Great-grandmother of Anthony, Christopher, Alexander, Arianna, Theodore, Joshua, Jason, Conner, Nicholas, Olivia, Owen, Andrew, Alex, Oscar, and Samuel. Frances was predeceased by her sister Edwina Cook. A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Toscano will be held on Saturday, October 19th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. She will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.Frances Toscano
