David H. Brown

February 2, 1936 - August 29, 2024

David H. Brown, age 88 of Farmington Hills, passed away August 29, 2024. He was born February 2, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Harold and Ethel (Peterson) Brown.

Dave considered himself a “Detroiter” since he spent his entire life in the area. He worked at New Haven Railroad before starting his own company, Centerline Metal Products, which retrofitted Army transport vehicles.

Moving into the new community of Farmington Hills in 1969 was like moving to the country. David found Orchard United Methodist Church and made it his home becoming a member in 1970. His faithfulness and service to God and his church was endless.

Missions were Dave’s passion and serving the people of Baldwin Church in Pontiac was at the top of his list. Endlessly making trips to Baldwin carrying food supplies, clothing and more supplies, Dave and his red truck were ready to help anyone in need, anywhere, at any time. Dave’s passions included our youth, young and old, assisting with the teens as a leader. In 1989, he traveled to Tennessee to the Appalachia area with the teen’s yearly mission project, really connecting with some of the boys.

Dave was always active in the life of Orchard. He loved the pumpkin patch every fall, putting up the temporary shed and stringing the lights for the pumpkins every year. He was there helping with the Eastside picnics, pancake breakfasts, men’s auctions, Sunday ushering, mall walking, and of course, Hot Dog Tuesday lunch with the guys!

While serving others in the Pontiac Baldwin area, David met April Flowers and her family. Their friendship grew as April and her family became family for Dave. They looked out for each other. Each new addition to April’s family was pure joy for Dave and a desire to support and care for the family, especially Omarie, a special needs baby David held in his arms and praised God!

David lived a life of service to others, sharing his love as only David Brown can – with passion.

David was predeceased by his beloved wife and son, Timothy, and sister Lauran Gilbreath. He is survived by his loving caregiver April Flowers and her children Creasha, Craig and Nieasha, along with Omarie and a host of other grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear friends Marcia and Dan Harmon.

Visitation for Mr. Brown will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 5th, at 11:00 a.m. at Orchard United Methodist Church, 30450 Farmington Rd., Farmington Hills.
