Joyce Ann Hansen

August 27, 1956 - July 27, 2024

Joyce Ann (Mandoline) Hansen, 67, of Canton died early Saturday morning, July 27, 2024, at Angela Hospice. She was born August 27, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Julius and Theresa (Frazzini) Mandoline. She was the loving wife of Hans Hansen for 46 years, they married on September 17, 1977. She was the devoted sister to Elaine (Robert) Chrismas; dedicated mother of Charina (Alex) Jones and Chris (Emily) Hansen; and a cherished grandma to Rose and Emma Hansen and Annabeth Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Joyce was a 1974 graduate of Liberty High School and received her B.S. in Systems Engineering from Oakland University. After obtaining her degree, she worked as an engineer for 18 years. She then changed course and served 25 years in parish ministry, in numerous roles including: Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Director of Initiation and Worship, Pastoral Associate, and then retired in 2023 from the position of Director of Faith and Evangelization at St. John Neumann Parish.

Her hobbies included baking, crocheting, card making, traveling, and cheering on her beloved Ohio State University Buckeyes football team. Joyce enjoyed acting as a leader in Camp Fire Boys and Girls. She received the Marion Award in May 1972 in recognition of her unique opportunity to develop new insights into herself, friends, family, faith, and the world around her, received the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal in October 1994 in recognition of her meritorious service to the spiritual development of Catholic youth and received the St. Anne Medal in February 1999 in recognition of her outstanding service to the spiritual development of Catholic youth. As a three-time cancer survivor, Joyce had a strong passion for participating in the fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society through their Relay for Life events.

A visitation to celebrate and remember Joyce’s life will be held on Friday, August 2nd from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 pm.. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service at McCabe Funeral Home: Canton Chapel, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. She will lie in state Saturday, August 3rd at 10:30 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Rd., Canton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Angela Hospice in Joyce’s name.
