In 1965, after completing her undergraduate studies in English at Tunghai University in Taichung, Taiwan, She moved to the United States to attend graduate school at Indiana University, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Library Sciences. After completing her studies in 1967, she moved to Michigan and enjoyed a 30+ year career at the Detroit Public Library.

Fu-Mei and Chei-Long were married over 50 years and spent their retirement days traveling the world on several multi-week, multi-country cruises every year. She also enjoyed spending time near Mackinaw and Charlevoix in northern Michigan. At home she loved cooking for her family and friends and spending time outside gardening.

Fu-Mei diligently studied and practiced everything that piqued her interests. She was an exceptionally talented artist. From calligraphy to making greeting cards to painting with watercolor, oils, or acrylics, Fu-Mei had a natural talent for creating beautiful works of art. Swimming was another hobby that Fu-Mei discovered after retirement and was often at the YMCA in the early morning swimming laps with Chei-Long, followed by social time at the table in the lobby with the other senior regulars.

A devoted wife and mother, Fu-Mei found most happiness in the company of her children, cherishing their well-being above all else. Her joy radiated through her unmistakable and characteristic laugh.  She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
