Gary Yarbrough

April 30, 1954 - October 12, 2023

Gary L. Yarbrough, age 69 of Canton, passed away October 12, 2023. He was born on April 30, 1954 in Detroit, to Roy and Irene Yarbrough.

A graduate of Garden City West High School, Gary went on to spend most of his career in the trucking industry. He loved his trucks and was a Master Salesman, featured in several publications, including Crain’s Detroit. A handful of years after graduation, Gary decided to head back to school and attended Cleary University, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Introduced to his friend’s sister, Gary would meet and marry the love of his life, Marilyn. The two were a perfect pair and enjoyed raising a family of their own. Gary was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa (or little grandpa as he was known to his grandsons), always managing to keep his great sense of humor throughout the family’s day-to-day life. He was known to get a good laugh with his famous jokes, quips that he often told more than once. With his outgoing personality, he enjoyed the company of family and friends, and was always up for a good party and playing his favorite Keno numbers, often winning.

Outside of work, Gary kept busy with numerous hobbies of his own. He was a lifelong Tiger’s fan, enjoyed fishing, and looked forward to a round of golf, or watching his favorite show, Seinfeld. He loved music, especially rock, and loved playing and collecting guitars. Photography was another passion of Gary’s, as he was the main photographer for his family, capturing many treasured memories throughout the years, and putting together slideshows for friends and family. Gary’s bright smile, warm personality, and sense of humor will truly be missed by so many.

Gary was the beloved husband of Marilyn for 47 years. Loving father of Jessica (Robert) Smolarek and Ryan (Monique) Yarbrough. Proud grandfather of Jacob Smolarek, Joshua Smolarek, and Louisa Yarbrough. Dear brother of Ron (Sue) and Diane (Dave).

Per Gary’s wishes, a private celebration of his life will be planned for a future date.
