Carol Lynn Brandes, age 68 of Canton, passed away September 20, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Michael; cherished mother of David (Jessica); devoted grandmother of Haley and Logan Brandes; and dear sister of Marchelle Freiburger (Charles Snyder), Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Kelly, Georganne Johnston and Norma Johnston. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, George and Marylou Johnston and her brother, George ‘Andy’ Johnston.

Carol was born in Port Huron, Michigan on January 25, 1955 to Marylou and George Johnston. She moved with her family to Southwest Detroit at the age of six and later moved to Dearborn Heights where she attended Annapolis High School, graduating in 1973. Carol met Michael Brandes while living in Dearborn Heights and continued their friendship before starting to date in the 1980’s. Following high school, Carol began her career with Trans-Overseas Corp. in Romulus, working her way to CFO and treasurer before retiring after over 30 years of dedication.

In 2003, after a long, loving relationship, Carol married Michael in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two continued their happiness and welcomed grandchildren into their life. Carol loved to travel and bowl and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds around her deck. Most of all, she loved to spoil and spend time with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Brandes will be held on Tuesday, September 26th,  from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 27th, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Carol will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carol’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
