William T. Crick, Sr.

February 14, 1923 - November 7, 2013



William Thomas Crick Sr., age 90, was called to the Lord on November 7, 2013. He was born on February 14, 1923 in Orillia, Ontario, Canada, to Ernest and Anna (Rose) Crick. Bill studied at Sacred Heart Seminary, followed by an honorable tour of duty with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He later attended the University of Detroit where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration. William is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Norma J. (Warman) Crick. His parents, his sister, Virginia I. Blaty and her husband, Edward A. Blaty, and his daughter, Dana J. Marra, predeceased him.

Bill worked for the J.L. Hudson Co. for 40 years, finishing his career as superintendent of the Westland store. Bill was smart, funny, disciplined and always on time. He loved golf and was voted best-dressed golfer of his league many times. Bill enjoyed sports, playing euchre and bridge, and a good manhattan. He created a garden of roses and carefully tended them. Bill had a beautiful voice and loved to sing accompanied by his wife on the piano. He was devout in his faith and believed in helping those less fortunate. He chaired one of the past Wayne County United Way Campaigns and was an active member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Bede Parish. He was happiest when surrounded by his family. Faith, family, and friends guided his life and we shall miss him.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, William (Carmen) Crick Jr., Gayle (Thomas) Fischer, Hollis (Gary) Hambell, Robert Crick, John (Beth) Crick, son-in-law, Paul Marra, sister, Rita C. Gallagher, brother-in-law, Frederick C. Warman, and Timothy Marra. He was grandfather to Justin (Jennifer) Crick; Jordan (Catherine) Crick; Amanda, Michael, and Abigail Hambell; Ashley (Adam) Parrish; Brett, Torre, and Jason Crick; and Bryan (Jennifer) Hambell. He was great-grandfather to Adrianna, Chase, Asha, and Sabrina Crick, Gabriel and Quinn Parrish, and Benjamin and Julia Hambell. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Henry Ford Hospital Neurological Intensive Care Unit and Hospice team, in West Bloomfield, for their wonderful care and compassion during this time.

Visitation will be from3-8pmon Friday, November 15, at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16,10:30am, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4300 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield. Bill will lie in state at the church beginning at 10:00am.
