I Remember...

A camping trip in 2002 and Sacha was there. He was hilarious and so much fun. His personality was truly magnetic and he positively affected everyone he encountered. Over the years it has been apparent that he was loved by so many and lived fully in the moment. He will be missed by so many. My condolences to his family and his girlfriend.

Mike as a young man who loved baseball. He was on our son's summer travel team and was always full of life and was so polite. He was a quality young man. We especially remember when, after years had passed, our son's school, Miami of Ohio, was playing Eastern and we went to watch. After the game, Mike came over to us and gave us the biggest hugs. He was so sweet. He was so grounded. Our hearts are broken. God bless you Mike. You will always be remembered as special.

I attended high school with Mike, and graduated a year behind him. I didn't know him personally and I don't think he knew me, but everyone knew him, or at least knew of him. I remember that he was a very suave and popular guy. I do, however, have a specific memory of him, that has stood out to me over the years. During my freshman year, Mike's sophomore, I was studying the Holocaust in my English class. I learned that this subject was not a required part of the education curriculum, so I decided to bring in a Holocaust Survivor to do a presentation at a student assembly. I saw this as a chance to educate the largely non-Jewish student base on this important topic, in an impactful way. During the assembly, the Survivor shared his incredible life story. Due to his advanced age and thick accent, he spoke slowly and was difficult to understand. As he spoke, I became anxious that he was losing the students' attention. I feared that his message would be lost, a message that was near and dear to me. After he concluded his talk, the crowd applauded him enthusiastically. I was amazed and relieved, but was even more amazed when groups of teachers and students approached the stage to thank him personally and shake his hand. I remember that one of these students was Mike Sacha. Even though I didn't know him, I knew he was someone who other kids looked up to, liked, and respected. This meant the world to me, and reassured me that the Survivor's message had gotten through, at least to some. Even though I didn't know Mike, I've carried this memory with me through the years, and I could see that he was a good person with a big heart. Thank you Mike, and you will be remembered by more than you know.

My son Brandon played both baseball and football with Mike, we are glad we had a chance to know him. Bran tells the story about the only time he had strep throat, Mike shared it with him. We hope never to outlive our children, our deepest sympathy to your family.

I remember Mike when I worked with him at the newspapers in Downtown Detroit. He was so polite and was willing to listen and learn. Sorry that he lost his life when he was alone. My sincere condolences to his family.
