I Remember...

So many great memories of a classy, feisty aunt, like a second mother to us cousins. Those snapping dark eyes sparkling with laughter and fun - full of life! Getting sewing lessons on summer stayover weeks. The best cook ever. We always fought over her homemade bread. When she ate a dozen ears of fresh corn on the cob at the Hix Road picnic table - with a side of tomatoes and cucumbers! Giving me a haircut - and getting thumped by "the thumb" when I squirmed too much. Breaking in every new rocking chair until it would squeak a just a little. A brave lady who beat cancer and kept us all on our toes. She enriched our lives with her presence and we'll miss her.

As a student of Roosevelt School in the 1960's I recall Mrs. Meteyer as crossing guard at Aubrey and Five Mile Rd. She had a smile and greeting for every child that walked to-and-from school. One of many great mothers who always encouraged us students. My sincerest condolences to the family.
