I Remember...

It was always a treat to see the relatives from Michigan. When they came to the farm in Bethany it was special and made my Dad so happy. I still cherish a little doll they gave me as a very young girl. A special man and a great uncle. Lots of love, Debbie

Your dad was an amazing man, to be honest I don't think the word amazing even fully describes him. He was honest, kind and had a way of bringing out the best in the people around him. Plus he always had a story to share. I remember when I discovered George's stash of Snicker bars! I was so excited that I found someone who could relate to my sweet tooth. I loved to bring him bags of mini snickers cause he would insist that I eat some too. The last moment I shared with George was a couple days after Christmas in 2013. It was shortly after his memory started being a problem. Throughout the conversation he had with my family and I he kept referencing his notes. After repeating himself a couple times he grew frustrated and I could see the pain on his face. My mom wasn't in the room, the boys and I exchanged glances, none of us knew what to say. I moved closer to George held his hands and we touched our foreheads together. I felt so much love in that moment. Although neither of us had the words to express our sorrow and frustrations we still knew how to express the love we felt. And that was George, love. No matter what, you couldn't help but to feel loved in his presence.

Just going through WWII letters from Leonard Fuller of East Bethany NY. He had a friend named George Kilby that he mentioned quiet a few times in his letters. Pretty sure it's your George. He mentions his mom having a lot of kids home and needing help. Both enlisted in 1942. Both in the air force. Leonard grew up on a farm. He graduated from Batavia High School in 1939. He must have been a good friend to George. Leonard was killed in action on July 7, 1944. It's a nice thought that George and Leonard have met again after all these years.

I just wanted to tell George's family that George was a very dear friend to Leonard Fuller of Linden NY and he was mentioned quite often in the many letters that Leonard sent home to his parents. The one found in his flight bag from George is amazing. Leonard was killed in action over Germany on the 7th of July, 1944. I would love to share some of these letters with George's family. I also wonder if George's family had any pictures to share of him. Military pictures. And there is always the slimmest chance they may have some old letters from the War that Leonard might have been mentioned in. George sounds like he was a wonderful and courageous person throughout his life. May he rest in peace.
