Russell Alan Rockett

November 11, 1969 - March 16, 2024

Russell Rockett, age 54, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024 surrounded by family.  He was born in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan on November 11, 1969 to the late Alan Rockett and Joyce Rockett-Marchesi.

Russell is survived by his wife of thirty years, Julie Rockett. The couple had four children: Andrew (Shay) Rockett, Katie (Austin) Siikarla, Nickie Rockett, and Alyssa Rockett, as well as a dog, Abby. Russell is additionally survived by his sister, Cheryl Cotter, his nephew, Joshua Cotter, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Russell lived a great life. He was an investor, a homemaker, and a musician, even releasing his own album in 2007 through his band, Someday Forever. He had many hobbies and interests, such as long walks, movies, music, and especially Michigan State athletics. Most importantly, he was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend.

While Russell passed away far too soon, his story is not a tragedy. He lived with Type 1 diabetes for most of his life, eventually resulting in kidney failure. At the time, his illness had left him too weak for a kidney transplant, but with perseverance and unwavering support from his family, he slowly regained his strength. On February 10, 2023, after a year of dialysis, he received the incredible gift of a kidney donation. Russell had only one year with his donor kidney before succumbing to cancer, but in that year, he supported his mother through her own cancer diagnosis, celebrated his thirtieth wedding anniversary, walked Andrew and Katie down the aisle at their weddings, attended Nickie’s senior swim meets, and cheered Alyssa on at many basketball games. He spent many wonderful weekends at his condo in Oscoda, Michigan, and gave lots of love to Abby. When Russell’s friends and family look back on his life, his incredible determination and love will outshine the rest.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19th, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 20th, at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd King Lutheran Church, 5300 W. Maple Rd., West Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, Russell’s family welcomes memorial donations to the National Kidney Foundation.
