Steven Daniel Ewing

May 19, 1975 - February 20, 2020

Steven Daniel Ewing was born in Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan on May 19th, 1975.  He was in no hurry as his due date was April 20th and he was born almost a month later, on May 19th.  His father, Dan Ewing, was a business owner in the manufacturing field.  His mother, Ruth Ewing, was a pharmacist.  The couple chose to have children at a young age and were able to be active and found joy in being spontaneous and fun loving with their children.

Steve grew up in Farmington Hills, Michigan.   He enjoyed spending time with his family.  When his father wasn’t working, he was playing sports with Steve and his siblings or taking his family on many wonderful trips. His childhood was blissful. Steve even had his own baseball field in his backyard, an area his dad cleared out for he and his siblings to enjoy and play.

Steve was a very happy and active child. He was the middle sibling between his sister, Charla, and his brother, Danny, who passed away in 2005. Steve and Danny shared a special bond, as brothers do. He enjoyed sports, riding his dirt bike, water skiing, downhill snow skiing and fishing. Some of Steve's happiest times were spent with his best friend, David Bartman, whom he had met and grown up with since the age of 4.

As Steve grew up, he remained very active.  Some might even say he was hyperactive!  By the time he was 5 years old, he had needed stitches 9 times!  Family lovingly called him, “extra-kinetic”.  Each time he wiped out; a family member was right there but wasn’t fast enough to catch him.!  So close…

Steve’s love for sports was apparent from a young age as he participated in football and baseball. In his youth, he was a member of the NFWB baseball team in which he was a short stop and cleanup batter, playing in an All-Star Game. Steve was tall, quick, and agile. His love for sports continued into high school.  While at Brother Rice, he excelled at playing football as a defensive end.  He also participated in fishing, water skiing, downhill skiing and dirt biking.  He proudly earned his degree from Brother Rice in 1993.

After high school, Steve attended Ferris State University and went onto pursue a career as a cold heading operator / set up operator for his father’s company. It was then that he discovered he was very mechanically inclined.  His love of handy work coupled with his skill for researching and fixing things led to his ability to diagnose problems and ultimately fix them.  While he worked, he continued to teach himself new skills and techniques. Steve’s interests grew and he began painting, making repairs, hanging wallpaper and other household duties. His handiness and creativity allowed him to truly help those that he loved.

In early 2009, Steve met Desiree Druce. The two fell in love and were inseparable from the start.  Steve and Desiree shared a close relationship that was one of a kind— a bond others could only envy.  He loved to take her on dates to the movies and restaurants.  One of Steve’s favorite vacation spots was the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.

Throughout his life, Steve gifted others with his humor and made them laugh.  Some would say he was “politically incorrect” but most of the time, they found him hilarious.  Even if someone occasionally found him offensive, his family and friends enjoyed his wit.  Steve was warm and caring and had a huge heart.  He loved music, especially oldies like the Rolling Stones and Marvin Gaye.  Steve also had an enormous love for dogs. He enjoyed watching them and caring for them. Steve was always the first to volunteer to dog-sit and he soaked in every minute. The owner never had to worry because they knew their dog was getting the best treatment possible. Likewise, Steve was wonderful with children.  He possessed a true passion for adventure and motorcycles.

Steve found his greatest joy in his family and in his relationship with Desiree.  Those who knew and loved him, admired Steve for being both loving and giving.  He was always ready to help others.  Steve will be remembered for his humor, spontaneity and impulsivity.

Steven Daniel Ewing passed away on February 20, 2020 at the age of 44.  He was the beloved son of Ruth and Daniel Ewing.  He was the cherished brother of Charla (Daniel) Simon and the late Daniel Ewing.  He was the loving uncle of Sydney, Kaylee, and Cole Daniel.  He was the devoted partner of Desiree Druce.  He also leaves behind many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Steve’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, March 1st, with his family receiving friends from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. ( 7 p.m. Rosary Service ) at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 West Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills.
