Gary Wyatt

May 27, 1944 - May 29, 2018

Wyatt, Gary E., age 74, passed away on May 29, 2018.

Gary Edward Wyatt was born on May 27, 1944 in Detroit to Edward B. Wyatt and Ilene (Salman) Wyatt.

He grew up mostly on the East side of Detroit, but spent a few years in Grand Rapids.  He graduated in 1963 from Wilbur Wright High School in Detroit.  He worked as a draftsman designing tooling for several shops in metro Detroit and then shifted his career to application sales for large automation equipment.  He married and had 3 children, Scott, Todd and Shelli.  He lived in St. Clair Shores and Forest Lake (Alger, MI).  In October 1979, he married Linda Gillians who he called his best friend and ‘favoritest’. They lived in Chicago for a short time and then settled in the Novi/Northville area where they have resided for the last 34 years.  Gary was a Detroit ‘car guy’ – the kind that knew the year and model by just the taillight.  As a teenager he was commissioned to build 100 model cars for Autorama.  He also owned a 1969 GTO that he loved to drive around with the top down on warm summer nights, and to car shows, including the Novi 50’s festival of which he was an active board member for many years.  But mostly he loved sharing time with his kids, including the ‘adopted’ Aussie, Tony, and his grandkids, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and friends at the Lake ‘up north’ enjoying outdoor activities like waterskiing, tubing, jet-skiing, golfing and snowmobiling.   He also loved to design and build/renovate homes.  He designed and built one, and designed and contracted 2 more including the one he and Lin are currently in.  In later years he ran a small business – Linco Mfg.

Gary was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, an auto-immune disorder, in 1986, but it did not interfere much with his activities until 2011.  He fought hard to enjoy every moment of the most recent phase in life, by meeting friends and family for dinners or even a Lion’s game or tour.  He was generous with the gifts God gave him, sharing ‘toys’, homes, events and other things with his family and friends.

He told everyone that he had no bucket list, as he had traveled much and had many wonderful experiences in his life.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Linda, his children Scott Wyatt, Todd (QiQi) Wyatt and his daughter Shelli Goggin, his 7 grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Jacob, Melissa, Jade, Brandon and  Breanna, 9 great grandchildren, his sister Cheryl (John Wenderski) Wyatt and sisters-in-law Pamela (Douglas) Campbell and Cynthia (Chad) Wiersma, as well as many more who considered him their dad, grandpa, uncle or brother.

Visitation for Gary is Friday from 2-8 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home (31950 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, Michigan).  A memorial service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the NorthRidge Church Chapel (12401 Ridge Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170).  The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
